what is neomeris?
good?
bad?
should I remove?
a bunch of little ones are growing throughout the tank. It was the main one, then little colonies of 4-5 started popping out here anbd there

i wouldnt worry about it too much, i have 1 and it hasnt spread, its been there 4 months about. Some seem to have problems though, like this guy

wow, that is crazy. mine have spread. after some tank maintenance, the one that is pictured broke off. it had doubled in size from then but at least 5 more have appeared.

Neomeris Annulata is a calcium based macro algae. It is reef safe and spreads very slowly, if at all. I have had one in my DT for a couple months and recently a second one has started growing.

See Melev's site for more info here.

is it beneficial in any way or should I just remove it when they start spreading more. I do not want a tank like that guy...
how did it get in my tank?

The tank full of Neomeris is local to me. If you don't think it won't spread fast, you are wrong. I know it doesn't for most people, but it can. It seems to like very clean water. His nitrates are constantly zero, and it still continues to spread. For most it is not a problem, but why risk it?

I consider my water very clean. evry time it tests great, sometimes salinity is a little low but that's it. I consider myself lucky a little coz I dont have sump or fuge or skimmer. just a 29g, 1700-1900gph of flow and 50-60lbs of live rocks. I will remove it though. do not want my tank looking like that. It is cool but not for me.

I also have Neomeris annulata growing in my 90gal. There are several hundred stems and I have recently tried removing them manually, which is not too hard to do, but they tend to break off and continue growing.

I have several hundred stems in my tank and they have been continually growing for over 6 months now. So contrary to some comments, these do not just "go away" after a couple months. They grow very aggressively and can stay in your tank.

I've looked all over online and haven't seen anyone comment about what may eat this stuff. Has anyone had any luck finding a fish, snail, crab, etc. that can help keep this under control? All I've seen on any of the forums is people identifying it. There must be something in the ocean that keeps this stuff in check...

Here's another thread going regarding this algae:
Pest: white stems with green tips growing all over

wow, I hope mine doesn't get to that point. Everything was fine until I went from pc's to t-5. Then all kind of crap started growing. I had a massive algae bloom, this and now caulerpa... what's next? hehe...

I have a few here and there. They will consume Ca, that may affect SPS and LPS. They also like clean water and high light. I had it disappear for a year or two and then just pop up again out of nowhere.

i will keep a close eye on them. I guess I don't mind a few, just don't want my tank to look like a 29g version of the tank a few posts up...

It would be very rare to happen, I'd say just enjoy the few you may get. They tend to boom and wane in my tank... some months I'll have a good number of them, and then they all die off.
