Bought a pulsing xenia frag a while back that came attached to a chunk of live rock. The xenia eventually died, and now these are starting to pop up on the rock. Not sure if the xenia is coming back to life or if this is something else entirely.

I have those in my tank and they aren't a problem unless you drag your finger or hand across them. They are pretty strong and sharp.

Proceed with caution. They will punch right thru a rubber glove if your re aquascaping. I had a banggai cardinal the stopped eating and and I guess I went a little heavy with the cyclopezz long story short I'd start crushing them at the base or kalking them. They can spread FAST

Throw that whole frag plug away and the rock if you can. My whole tank is covered in those hideous things. Growing on the glass..the return pump...every rocky crevice of course. Makes me want to rip it all out and start over but I'm trying to make peace with them.

Don't let it happen to you! (Like smokey the bear says only you can prevent an infestation---lol)

Is there a reason they'd spread faster in some tanks than others? I have a few very bright red ones, and a few brown ones, but I don't think I've ever seen new ones popping up, at least not yet.

I'm sure my tank is a ticking time bomb of high nitrates and phosphates so I am probably more prone to an infestation but they don't go away easily and nothing eats them. Get rid of the few you have if they are true vermetids and not something else.
