I was actualy thinking of doing the same thing.I think i might go with a reef fanatic set up instead(or something similar). Thanks for your answer.

I am going to add an additional float switch as a backup and use an aqua lifter pump as my top off pump. You should look into that. The aqua lifter is cheap and you can get two float switches for $7 a piece.

Lot's of others are using this similar setup. Much safer and the extra switch works as a backup.

First off sorry for your loss. I have been holding off on a Kalk reactor due to the thoughts of the situation you are in. It's never fun when you have equipment failures and fish or other creatures die. I hope you can get enough water changed to get the parameters in check and save what's left.

An ATO with dual floats is pretty safe. Add a timer to it as well to limit the amount of time the ATO will run and you have multiple safety mechanisms. An ATO is not foolproof, actually not too much is. Add enough backup systems and the chances of all the backup systems failing at the same time is pretty slim.

Thanks cdness. Two fish survived. Fancy Tail Blenny & Royal Gramma. All my water parameters are in check. My Mag is a little high. 1520 to be exact but I am certain that will reduce over time. The rest is good. Now I am just waiting to see what pulls through the ordeal. My efflo is gone and a few other corals got burnt up really bad but hopefully they will rebound.

Only time will tell at this point and to think less than 24 hours before this I had taken some pictures of my corals and posted them here:

It's hard to look at them because the tank was doing awesome!!
