This i need help with my freshwater tank. I lost power for about 5 hours everything else in all my other tanks is fine . But my beloved oscar that Iv had forever seems to lost the will to live it quit moving its breathing but not moving at all iv tried everything heating up the tank moving it around feeding it nothings working is there something I can do the water quality is good. please help if you have any ideas this fish has been with me from the begining when he was an inch long. please give me advice i need it quick thank you thank you thank you.

also ive kept oscars in the past, one thing ive found is they hate heat, i mean if the water starts to get near 28 c then they suffer, this is what i found anyhow, hows the temp in your tank, as above also get some more oxygen in there, big fish need lots of oxygen

I would also suspect o2 depletion. The best thing you can do is to get the circulation going. Anything you can do to aerate the water would likely help.

them temp is 78F ill try to add as much curculation as possible ill even stir the water with my hand if thats what it takes

In addition to adding more oxygen to the water, you could try and revive him like you do with a fish you catch and release. Just carefully hold him in the water and move him back and forth to get the water running through his gills. If he's not moving his gills you could try pumping them back and forth with your hands, but that will probably be hard with such a small fish. It's a lot easier on a 25 inch snook. lol. Good luck!

ill try that i have been moving him around he is still alive just not moving ill try to do a signifigant water chage I have about 15 gallons from my ro/di unit ill hold him in front of my korialia pump for a while.

i let water flow through his mouth and gills for a while, i did a water chang now ill let him rest between two rocks so he says up right. It might be just his time Iv had him for over a year and he has been through alot, even a heater malfunction whick got the tank over 90F.

dipping water out in a gallon pitcher and pouring it back in from a height for the better part of an hour can add quite a bit of oxygen.

I did everything I could for him but he died. all my other fish are healthy. he doesn't look diseased. It probally just got old and the power failure did him in. Thanks for all the advice though.

sorry to hear about your loss... Oscars are great fish and have tons of personality. They are easy to get attached to.
