For the past few weeks I've had an algae bloom which started with the purchase of new Jebao wp-25 that blew my sand around everywhere and on the LR all around that side it's now covered in what I'm guessing is turf algae maybe ? But anyhow its getting worse and worse daily, i've done several 15-25% WC some even twice a week. I've checked nitrates, phosphates and coming up 0 but I know could be using them and unable to test for them. Any ideas on anything else I could do? Remove sandbed ? I'm running rowaphos in reactor 24/7 and cut lighting in half and feeding smaller amounts every other day and have vacuumed the heck outta the sandbed and changed filters in Ro/di unit. Thanks for any ideas !!! I'll add pics of the problem

Have you ever heard of Fritzyme 9 it has 9different types of beneficial bacteria that help stabilize your water. I use it with every water change. Works wonders! It sounds like you might have had a mini cycle , this stuff will recolonize your tanks biological bacteria and give it a boost.

Does anyone know what this horrid stuff is ? Its relentless ! I wouldn't break my tank down over it but it's really trying my patience ! My skimmer is also going crazy with micro bubbles and never done this before, could it be because the water is too clean now after running the Rowa ? Not sure, tank is approx 18-20 months old. Thanks

No I haven't heard of this product, is it similar to Probido ? I'll be sure to look it up and check it out! Thanks!

I can't tell by the pictures but look up Bryopsis and see if that is what you have. Increasing your magnesium to 1500 will rid Bryopsis if that is what you have.

Hard to tell from the pics but if it's fern like it's briopsis. After a positive Id look up tech M treatment for it.. It's way more than raising your mag to 1500 fwiw. If it's not there is a algae Id on one of the sponsors sites who sells clean up crews but I forgot who lol..

And if your nutrients are truly at 0 that's all bad and most likely the reason why your acro has rtn. Stripping the water column to 0 leaves nothing for the corals. That along with cutting your lights and a lot of changes is throwing off the stability and making the tank inhospitable for sensitive corals like the acro in the pic imo.

I personally would scrub it off weekly and let the tank stabilize.

Ok I removed the GFO last night because I think I've messed around and got the water too clean as far as stripping the phosphates and all. I've also done several decent size water changes so I'm going to slowly get my lighting back on track and "dirty" the water back up a hair. I'd rather have a little algae than dead STN'ed acros lol. It's crazy that for 18 months this tank ran flawlessly basically until the purchase of the WP 25 that blew my sandbed around everywhere then came the mess !!!!!

Your corals are starting to lose flesh. My suggestion is STOP whatever you're adding to your tank because it appears you're doing more damage than cure.

Let's start from the beginning. Your problem appears to be bryopsis.. I would start with these questions:

-Are you using RO/DI water? how old are your filters? What salt mix? Do you buy your own saltwater?
-How did you treat your rocks? it appears the bryopsis are thriving on whatever's leaching out of the rocks.

I won't be too quick to pull the substrate. You need to slow down. Tank crashes happen when people get impatient and do series of corrective actions which only lead to tank shock. Remember that stability is key. If you suspect that the WP-25 is causing these, then pull it out, do a W/C, then observe.

My other hypothesis is that the new powerhead blew sand all over the tank and stirred up the muck from the sandbed, which caused an algae outbreak. How often do you vacuum your sand?
