Please tell me about the REAL aquascaping

awestruck

I have looked at many of the pictures of reefs in this forum and they are absolutely fabulous!

Soon I will be aquascaping my new 65g. and have sat, and sat, and sat while fiddling around w/different ideas for rock placement. When you're diving, what common things do you see regarding the rock? For example, do you see pillars, mini mountains, lots of caves etc. And, generally speaking, what don't you see?

And, have you aquascaped your own aquariums to kinda replicate what you have seen in the ocean(s)?

Trying to get the aquascape natural looking is my goal. Any input would be great.

I have gone diving and seen a lot of sort of "valleys" essentially two peaks and lower in the center... for some reason, i keep aquascaping that way... its really subconscious too, i dont realize it until like a week later.

You will find anything and everything in the ocean, pillars, mountains, walls. Depends where you are i suppose. What i see the most are walls and valleys, Vallys are always cool and fish enjoy swimming around in them

Thanks :) When I look at all the pics in this forum I try to get an idea of what different places look like but sometimes it's kinda hard (especially when you're enthralled by a cool animal shot). I've done the peaks and valleys and I think that looks good. Another nice look is like a ski slope but it's designed so it's kinda like you are looking at it sideways. Does that make sense?!

yes

swimming in circles after their own tail came in at a close second

swiming towards the powerhead came in 3rd

& darting from wall to wall came in fourth
