It could be a fungal infection from a wound. Is it a new fish to your tank? Sometimes this can happen when a fish losses a scale or two from being netted.

I had an angel with that. It looks like a hard ball of cotton. I forget what it was called. It falls off on its own in a few weeks. RESIST the urge to go in there and pick it off :)

Is it attached to the body or the pelvic fin?

The bottom 2 little fins in front of his/her pooper shoot

We just put him in the DT tonight. He was in QT for 3 weeks with no sign of anything. After 10 minutes in the tank we noticed it. We did not look over him today because lights were out in both tanks so we transfered him into the DT because he was fine yesterday. I did not notice this yesterday.

My friends yellow tang has that on his back fin. Think its fungal.(its not ick)

How do you get rid of it then? Suggestions

Looks like lymphocystis to me as well. Knock on wood I have never had a tang with it but other fish and it does not seem to affect them to much, just a while to recover.

Thats the name I couldnt think of. It just falls off after some time.

Close up picture would help.

I doubt its a fungal problem - pretty rare in SW.

Might be lympho which is a viral issue. If lympho then its akin to warts in humans. No medication is going to help .. tend to be infection only within same species. Often goes away on its own if fish has strong immune system. Good water conditions, low stress, and good food will promote immune system.

Good luck.

Being that it's attached to the fin, lymphocystis is much more benign. Lympho becomes more of a problem when it is on the body, particularly near the mouth or gills. Not much you can do about it anyway. May go away depending on fish health as said in a previous post.
