Plumbing Help - Too much flow through sump/microbubbles

Sounds good, ill try and pick that stuff up tonight. How do I go from a 1" pipe to a 2" pipe?
Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that I should not need a filterbag to stop bubbles if I have baffles in my sump.

I have a simple over under over between the skimmer chamber (where the water enters) and the fuge. In some cases are there simply too many

You use a 2" to 1" reducer busing that will insert into the port of the Y or T that you will be connecting the 1" pipe into.

There are lots of ways to make a bubble baffle/trap ... you have a simple over under that isnt doing the job. If you have a ton of bubbles, they wont always work, especially the simpler ones.

Thanks for your help. I just got this thing put together. I used some 1" tubing to connect to a 45 degree elbow. I put together the Y joint, capped it off and drilled a 1/4" hole. I put it together and it runs silent! I believe the Y tubing is an 1.5". I could not find a 2".

Now the water is not being launched towards my baffles. The curved piece of pvc tubing I had rigged in there was not functioning very well.

I will have to wait and see if the bubbles die down.

I checked the price on a 25 pack of filter bags (minimum) and it was going to be around $70. Is there a better place to buy a smaller amount?

What else can I do to trap bubbles?

Well I do not see a big difference in bubbles in the tank. I see none in the sump actually making it to the return. I am guessing I am dealing with very tiny detritus unless my return pump is somehow creating micro bubbles.

my sump is an old 100g acrylic sump with no baffles.

i dont use micron socks, baffles or any bubble traps as well.

stopping micro bubbles can be quite simple.

if you choose to have the drain empty below the water water, yes, you can get bubbles. one way to help decrease this is to put a T just above the water line (in the air). this will help burp out extra air thus hopefully decreasing bubbles in the sump water.

then you can have the crashing water into a tall bucket (taller than the water line) with holes drilled in the side to let the water out. in fact, you can also have a bucket in a bucket (inner one smaller than the outer one) each drilled with small'ish holes. this usually acts as a bubble killer as well.

your pump can also be somehow sucking in air and blowing it back into the tank. ensure that the water level isnt too low where the pump intake could be sucking air in.

just some possibilities...

How are you looking? Take a bright spotlight and shine it through the sump and look carefully.

I have a 1 watt LED flashlight that I use to look in the sump.

Last night I turned off ALL of the flow for 10 minutes. I looked in the tank and in the sump and it is definitely pulverized detritus. Since the particles were not dissipating or rising I figured this had to be the case.

That is a great idea with the bucket under the drain. Unfortunately I am very low on space. I might be able to pull off using a 2.5" piece of PVC or something. I think that my bubble issue is under control though.

I would use like a 60w spotlight. It has to be very bright. If you turn off the return and just use the display flow, does it go away?

I mentioned the bucket in the sump in conjunction with the Reverse Durso as a method to both quiet and reduce micro bubbles in one of the earlier posts. Of course, if your little particles arent bubbles and instead is detritus ... well, you have something else to deal with other than bubbles so the bucket with holes isnt going to help there.

I have the reverse durso on there now. It is super quiet and diffuses the water. I had an issue before of water nearly hopping over my baffles.

Now this water has a better change at getting skimmed out. I am going to try and make my own felt filterbags from felt from a craft store and see how it works out.

aquaticecosystems.com sells filter bags/socks seperately.
Not sure if they have the size you want and they cost more seperate than in bulk. But you can check them out if you want to order a couple bags individually.

I found some there that at 7"x32" for 10.00 for a 100 micron. It is a bit long but two of these would be perfect I think.

They also have the 6" X 20" which is what I use. It's hard to naviagte that site but they are there somewhere. I think they are 6 bucks or somewhere around there.
