plumbing/placing a mag drive 24

I have a mag 24 that I plan to run externally on a closed loop. Can I place the pump on its side so that the return is facing upward? If not then I wold have to attach a female adapter to the outlet and then an elbow to run the water up. I'd rather not connect the extra elbow if not necessary.

The foot plate on the Mag Drive pumps can be detached and re-attached to point the outlet in any direction. Also, I don't see any reason you couldn't also put the pump with the inlet facing up. The one I have in my cichlid tank was very easy to re-orient.

I have other Mag pumps and they all have a foot plate, unfortunately the 24 does not.
