Plumbing question - bulkheads and pvc

Hey all,

I'm finally ready to plumb the 180. I have slip fit bulkheads on the tank drains. Do I need to use the pvc primer and "glue" when I insert the pvc into the bulkheads?

On a side note - I LOVE my dremel!

Yes, I'd use the clear primer so it looks nice. The Primer will insure a tight and permanent seal.

I've seen just glued joints leak in a friends set-up.

I'm going to disagree about the silicone, it's not really necessary the gasket works very well on it's own. just don't overtighten the bulkheads. And i would use primer and glue on the outside, but if your making a durso or similar on the inside of the overflow it can just be slipped into place without glue. and the only difference between the purple primer and the clear is a dye so you can tell that it's been primed, so i would use clear if you can find it, the purple stuff is a mess.

bulkheads are tricky, but the key is, like scott said, not to overtighten them. that usually results in the leaks. that purple stuff works great though on the pvc.
