Plumbing question

I have a dual overflow and was wondering if anyone has done the supply on one side and return on the other? I think every one I've seen has been 1 supply and 1 return per side. I think it would be easier to plumb and have more equal lengths of pipe, just not sure if this would cause problems as I know nothing about plumbing.

By doing this you do reduce your surface skimming area by half (The 2nd overflow.) Due to this your water level in your tank may rise a bit. Additionally I would think that the overflow with 2 returns would now just have stagnant standing water unless a precaution to prevent water from getting in the overflow is taken.
