plumbing question

I am laying out the plumbing for my new tank and I have a quick question.
Will a mag 18 draw water up about 6 inches or will it have to be primed to do that?
With the layout of my sump it would make it a lot easier and less 90's if it could suck up the water, external, and then pump into my tank. TIA

I don't believe it will draw water up. The pumps were not designed to be used in such a way.
