Plumbing Size

I'm in the process of setting up a 75 gallon reef. I bought a used tank with a couple 2" holes (one in each top corner). I also had my LFS drill a hole for an H2Overflow return in the middle. I'll try running it in a full siphon with a 1" emergency drain through one of the corner holes.

The H2Overflow has a massive 1.5" drain fitting. I was thinking about reducing it to something smaller, .75" or 1" then into a ball valve to adjust the siphon. Any thoughts on that?

Do not reduce the drain that is just asking for problems. I have a 75 gal tank and use a 1.5" drain though with no problems.

I dont have an emergancy drain so i guess that could help. I cant hear my overflow at all however i do run a 1" durso in the overflow so i guess it isnt a full 1.5". Had to go with 1" due to space restrictions in the overflow.

I would say i push around 500gph through the overflow though but my sump is in the basenent so its just a guess.

i have 3-1 1/4 inch drain bulkhead holes between my internal and external over flow box with 3 -1 1/4 drains into a 2 inch pipe to my basement.. My Return pump can still easily over run it...

So to say is 3/4 .75 enough. it really depends on how much water you are expecting to move.. I would So no...

I am going to tear down and rebuild my Aquascape. when i do i will either drill more holes or enlarge the ones i have . I am not getting the water volume my pump is capable
