Plumbing tanks together?

I am setting up two new tanks, 180g and 150g. They will be in the same room and I am considering plumbing them together to a common sump. Obviously there are pros and cons to doing this, so if anyone can offer up advice on why or why not doing this, please let me know.

Nothing wrong with running two tanks to one sump. Some things to keep in mind: make sure the sump is designed to accomadate the flow through generated by both aquariums, make sure the sump is large enough to accomodate the water from backsiphoning during a power outage. I would use 2 seperate return pumps to make it easier to isolate one of the tanks from the system when needed for water changes, etc.

What are you planning to keep in these tanks? There may be some additional things to consider depending on how you are stocking the system.
