Plywood Face Check

This seems to be a problem area in Boat building.
Applying Epoxy to plywood with no Glass cloth and the plywoods Veneer will face check (crack) from the moisture in the ply dropping. If cloth is applied to the face it greatly reduces this. Fir being one of the worst for checking.

This topic doesnt seem to come up when plywood tanks are being built. A lot of people just doing the seems or corners with Cloth.

I am assuming a boat that is exposed to extreme weather increases the chance of face check. Plywood tanks not so much???

Just wondering if anyone has encountered mystery hair line cracks in the epoxy coating? Possibly caused by checking?
