Yea, mine doesnt have any drain on it. I guess i should've asked for it :(

Nevermind - Cup drain fitting. Doh. I asked John and he installed on there. It's John Guest speed fitting, like on an RO unit. I paid for the parts and he installed.

Yea, it doesn't fit with the O ring at all. John just e-mailed me a bit earlier today letting me know they got the new skimmer completed for me - they went to work on it with a diamond bit and will fit properly with O ring. I have to ship this one back to him. It's easy to put on the fittings, a drill and a trip to home depot would take care of a drain :)

Would i need to thread the hole?

Yep, you would. You can get 1/4" NPT taps at Lowes/Home Depot/etc. for this. I think they're usually around $20 or so or online for as cheap as $4, such as here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WZYHAC . The cool thing is that you can use them in acrylic, too, so you could use them for DIY reactors, although the 1/2" are generally more usable for that purpose.

Yes you would - brandon made some good recommendations there. If you e-mail John I'm sure you can work something out with him as well.

What water level do you have yours at, and what notch do you have the water pipe set to? Are you getting good dark skimmate? I adjusted mine down a bit last night (just slightly under 4th dot) and now I seem to be getting some very thick foam but hardly any actual skimmate.

The denser the skim mate, the slower to get into the cup. The tunze pumps like lower water levels compared to Sicce or aquabee. John and I had this discussion when he first started putting Tunze's onto his skimmers. I have a 200 so use a larger pump (a 9420) which seems to do better at 7" than it does at 8-9". The recommendation was to raise the skimmer a little in the sump, so you could try and do some fine tuning and talk to john about what water height he recommends for the skimmer base.

I installed the new sump last night and cleaned the skimmer+pump and everything.

I'm having some performance issues and water height. Its not pulling any skimmate.

Is this because i cleaned it?

Also Zach i have the water level at 6 5/8 or 6.625. I originally had it at 7 1/4 or 7.25 and it was doing very well.

Maybe it needs to break in again. Seems like its not pulling the same amount of air as it did before.

It says on I-Tech site that the Recommended water level: 5 ¼” to 6 ¾”.... 5.25 to 6.75

Im undecided on the water level. I will try 6.25 and see what it will do.

Give your skimmer a few days, especially if you cleaned it with vinegar. Vinegar will effect the performance (this is per John when I set mine up).

Keep in mind that any time you stick your hands/arms/toes/etc. in the tank that your skin oils will usually cause your skimmer to lose its foam head. :)
