i just recently began getting my hands on SPS's and i am still not familiar with the different species within each genus... i just bought a coral today and i do not know if it is a pocillopora or stylopora... and is it pocillopora or stylopora that is part of acroporas...? or are they both from different genus than acropora...?

Both pocillopora and stylophora are genera in the family Pocilloporidae. I agree its probably pocillopora but I can't say for sure unless I see the skeleton. If you could post a pic of the coral with polyps retracted someone could say with more confidence.

Yup, identification is based on skeletal characteristics. So, in order to identify it's good to at least be able to see the skeleton. :)

But, for now I agree that it does appear to be Pocillopora.
