Pods & live marine food

This question has baffled me since I started my reef over a year ago.

How do pods and other live marine organisms get from a refugium to the main display tank?

If they live in the fuge, don't they just remain there? And if not won't the die in the process of getting pumped through a return?

Hope someone can shed some light on this.

they have a life cycle and when they are young are like tiny tiny fleas that are too small for the pump to injure and they spread through out your system.

you will be surprised at how much, and what will grow through a pump. look at the inside of a pump. the blades dont chop through the water, they push the water through the plumbing. its almost like a cocoon of water. there will be some loss if the pods get close to the edge, but most go right through into the display.

The best way I have found is to keep a couple of very porous sponges in the fuge and pull one out every other day and swish around in the main tank
