I studied Queen triggers for a while years ago and observing them in captivity and in the field in the Southern Caribbean they truely are spectacular fish with personality and attitude to spare!
However... in the wild for me the odds would have to be stacked in favour of nigers, while I've always thought thier colours to be subtle and far less goudy than thier cousins to see hundreds of them milling above the the reefs in the Maldives is nothing more than spectacular...oh with the odd 12'' clown trigger thrown in for good measure.
Then again..... 10'' Picassos in Mauritius and Hawaii in less than 5 ft of water..... undeniably awsome fish.
I haven't been able to set up a tank for many years due to the ever changing nature of my job, so I am envious of all you lucky ones who get to enjoy these awsome fish daily.
They truely are an amazing family of fishes ranging from bold ,brash and attention seeking to the gentle and somewhat elusive. How can you pick just one favourite!
From my understanding it depends on where they originate from. I have seen large nigers from Bali with white teeth. Our Australian ones have bright red teeth which look cool.
I'm voting for the Hawaian Pinktail. I had one of these fro several years with excellant color - deep dark green with a subtle crosshatch pattern of pale yellow. Bright pink tail and yelllow side fims !!!
Very active and friendly and would follow my kids fingers as they slid them along the tank.
