Might have some nippers. What is your fish stock list? I see 3 tangs, copper and and goby. Any angels? What kind of acro is the one above the FTS btw?

Two purple tangs, one small Red Sea Angel never seen anyone nipping on the coral. By the way what is FTS. Thanks for your help I really need it. Phil

How do they look at night? With color like that they have to come out yes first acro is awesome what is it?

FTS just means Full Tank Shot. Just wanted to know what the coral was about the pic above the one of the full tank pic. The very first pic is beautiful too, looks like a Rainbow Spath. In regards to polyp extension, my best would be your Angel bc your parameters look good. Have u checked for pests?

Shine a blue light in there at night and i'll bet everything has crazy PE. One of my older tanks was like that, but i never knew why.

If you are running a uln system then you could try feeding amino acids everyday. Go check out redsea reef energy a and b. Start dosing that everyday. If you see no pe after doing this for a week then it has to be something like a nipper or flow.

I'm dosing Acropower all night from midnight to 8 am each morning. Have been using product for a couple months now and have great results.

How old is the tank?

Polyps won't necessarily come out when u feed the coral! Have you ever had any polyp extension?
What do u consider no nitrate and phosphate? Numbers and test kits?

I would put money on the angel causing u the issues.

Ok, i had an ick break out in my tank end of last year, so i went fishless reef for 3 months. In that time all my sps, no exceptions, had amazing polyp extensions day or night. Then i added 2 wrasse and a tiny flame back angel. About 2 weeks later not one of the corals would have polyp extension when nothing else changed in the tank. I view the tank during the day and didnt notice any nipping from any of the fish but realized that the fish would a times swim near the corals or brush up against them. Eventually i lost both wrasse, not sure why, and the corals began to extend, mostly at night, and very little in the day. Currently i have only the flame back in the tank and will probably remove him in the near future to see if the corals respond, polyp extension that is. If they do, i will add a couple of small fish that are active swimmers to the tank, like clowns, gobies, dart fish, or cardinals.

I have a similar issue
Sending my water out to be tested. It could be an issue you don't even know about.

As for the angels. Yes they can nip. I know many people who keep angels in SPS reefs. Their sps have awesome PE. I think it is really a water quality issue. you need to invesigate to find out what issue is. it could be something like Silica in water.

Good luck

I really doubt its water q for me. I changed nothing. 20% water change biweekly, checked my ca, mg, and alk and they are rock steady due to dosing pump use. My tank is also lightly stocked and when i feed, i do it lightly. Yes, I agree, it could be the angel. But why now some of the sps are opening up during the day? The only thing changed is im down to just the angel. If it were only because of the angel the polyps behavior should not have changed any since losing both wrasse.

I believe the angel is probably bothering the sps, but i also believe that because there is less activity in the tank, the polyps are extending more. That would explain why most reefers express polyp extension at night. I believe the corals would feed 24/7 if theres no fish as explained when i was fishless.

I'm going to take some video or photographs tonight after the lights are out for a couple of hours and see what happens. I'll let you guys know exactly what's going on. I'm so glad to for this reef community. You ask for help and it's on its way. Thanks again guys and girls.

Okay, let's start with the first photograph. I got this coral from a company in Australia I think it's a rainbow millie, not really sure. Nitrates and phosphates I used two different test kits , Red Sea and the other one is Elos they're both within a couple of points or two. no3. 0.01 and phosphates - undetectable that I can tell. Tonight's the night. Place,Phil tank, time 3 PM, camera Sony video. I can't wait to see the results I will post them right away and let you guys see what's happening. Until tomorrow.Phil

I forgot to mention the tank has been up sense November 2013. 1.5 year I was doing Zeovit and was not successful broke the tank down last November start from scratch, It's been about 5 1/2 months. I went today and purchased some Red Sea products thanks for the suggestion.
