pom pom crab impregnates itself?

I posted this in the "other inverts" forum but didn't get much in responses, so I thought I'd ask here.

I'll have to start by appologizing for my crude photo taking abilities. I have a pom pom crab in my 45g tank and recently showed up w/ a clutch of red stuff on its underside. The thing that baffles me is, it's the only pom pom I have in there. Will females just make eggs that are unfertilized? Here's my crappy pics:

I had one that did that a couple of times. My guess is they make eggs but they won't hatch unless fertilized.
