Hi Pixi!! That looks like red sea xenia to me!!! It grows alot shorter and spreads out more than pom pom, true pom pom is really thick and tall!! thankyou though!

I believe that the particular xenia you are looking for is non-pulsing waving hand type of Anthelia (Waving Hand Coral). There are approximatley 60 sp. of Xenia. The photo above by pixiegirlie appears to be Xenia umbellata also known as pom pom xenia, almost always fast pulsing and usually from fiji but also found in the red sea. Xenia elongata is usually much more of a reddish/tan color with longer stalks and pulses usually rather slowly. I have both types but no Anthelia.
Hope this helps clarify.

george
I think he is referring to the thick stalk xenia. It's not very common and the stalks are like an inch in diameter. It's much different then our normal red sea and smaller version of pom pom. It also does not spread as crazy as the smaller versions.
Pixiegirlie, would you be willing to trade some of that for something? I have a nice rock of green star polyps, a red rhodactis mushroom, some pocillipora, and alsosome kenya tree and a wierd mysety mushroom.
I really don't think that pic shows Xenia at all, look closley a the polyp end sof those stalks, still looks like Anthelia to me. Closley related but definatley not Xenia sp.
I thought I saw some at Oceans Blue a while back.
Not too common around here on the east coast though.
Regards,
George
anthelia doesnt stalk like that. that xenia was big when GARF was going strong. i actually acquired one from them almost 10 years ago. was a great xenia, very blue and grow decently. good luck.
yeah rossie i remember when vihn used to get that like it was going out of style...haven't seen it in a really long time, it was nice cause it didn't spread like wild fire!!!!
