mile sq. reefer,

Nice growth sequence!

Is this colony in a high or low light area of your reef? I read in an article recently that this is considered a low light coral. Mine is in a high light area with good coloration, but grows so slow. I've placed another piece in a lower light area to see how it does.

The growth sequence is great! Good job, I gotta get me one of these, its at the top of my "must have" list

Excellent growth sequence. It grows hecka fast in my tank as well. I wish I could get the pretty growth pattern of yours, mine is growing more tightly bunched.
OT, Do you see much of your Pygmy Hawk and how big is it?? I have been temtped to add one to my reef but I remember a friend who had one once and he rarely saw it until one day it disappeared for good.

reefkoi, Thanks, I like sequence shots too. I wish I did it with more of my corals.

slojmn, I appreciate the response. My 1.5" pygmy hawk ( P. Inermis) hangs around the rock work and under a small ledge. I have about 50# of rock and an open scape, central island, so ,yes, he/she is out guite often. It also likes to hide in and around my small red shroom patch which I keep cropped. This fish has alot of personality, great color, and peaceful disposition. I was fortunate to purchase it about 2 years ago when my LFS was tearing down a display tank. Each fish is different but thats my exp.

Thanks so much for the Pygmy Hawk review...sounds like a potential for my reef, although I have a two island setup with lots of places to hide where I would never see it. I am tempted though :). They are the cutest little things.

in response to slojmn's comment on that growth pattern if you add a little less flow onto that peice it will grow a little more open and not so tightly bunched, just as with standard birdsnests, they grow more tightly together and thicker branches, with more flow on them just as in the wild, and when there is less flow on them the will grow more thin and wide spread. i learned this the hard way as i always wanted my birdsnests to grow more dense and thick like a wild colony, so i had to experiment to find these results

alten78 it is the growth for one year. I dont have the exact dates of each picture.

mrme, thanks. You dont realize how things mature until you start to look at old pics.
