Pony tank (seahorses)

I've been doing some researching on starting a pony tank. I was looking if anyone round here has one setup. And some good links help me get started. I have a 29nano that I'm going to use. With pc lighting.

check emerald bay out. I think they have a 29 or 24 cube setup with sea horses.

Thanks for the info guys Ive already talk to chris and Sean about it. I was just seeing if any had one and can tell me the do and don't of running one. All ready know the basic. From the research I've been doing.
And also been chatting with seahorse.com in Hawaii and Seahorseworld in Miami. Which I hink the critter get there seahorses.

There's someone in east TN that has been keeping them and breeding them. They bought my 90 gallon corner tank a while back for a seahorse tank. I can't remember their name, but assuming they are still in the game, they might be on the ETRC board or someone might be able to help you figure out how to get a hold of them on that board.

I would recommend only maybe a pair for that size tank. Also I would be careful because some of the ones that are sold as captive raised are actually raised in pens in the ocean and have some of the same problems as wild caught ones. I would suggest http://www.seahorsesource.com/. The guy is very knowledgeable and was on a seahorse forum I used to frequent.
I kept seahorses for a while and even bred some. I got the babies several months old before the filter on their tank went out and they all died. I have kept several kinds including dwarfs. I would suggest not using live rock since some of the hitchikers can be bad news for them. I once kept having snout problems with my horses and thought it was snout rot. I lost a few horses to it before I found the real problem. They were sticking their snout in a hole to eat amphipods and there was a crab living in it that would grab them. I finally found a seahorse hanging out of the hole while the crab was trying to eat it. I also had one large erectus that tried to eat a bristleworm and it got stuck in it's mouth and it ended up dying from it. Don't set it up like a reef tank and they really do better with cooler temperatures as well.

Good point about the live rock that's the 1st I've haven't read anything about that. My rock has no crabs or pods.Maybe should startover with some clean rock. My rock was baserock before I put it in the tank.
I was thing of getting 2f & 1male of fuscus or breviceps both only grow up to 3-4". Or start off with some dwarf ponies. Maybe if I do a good job I got a 75gal tank to turn in to a pony tank.

If you have had your rock for a while and it looks good then it is probably fine. I like the brevis and fuscus but have never had them. I really like the pot bellies but didn't have a tank big enough or a chiller to keep the water in the 60s. If you get dwarfs let me know. i might get some more too. Here is the thread on my dwarfs.
