Thanks

I don't see why it wouldn't be safe. If you mean Spa-Flex... Yes, it's definitely safe.

Use spa flex not the spiraled vaccuum hose. The cuffs on vac hose leak (I manage a pool shop in canada). And it's really tough to seal well. Spa flex will socket weld with pvc cement. If you need to run tight bends, heat the spa flex with boiling water. 1 1/2 spa flex will do a 9" radius. Anything smaller than that, use solid pipe and 45's.

I don't get it what's the difference between the two hoses? By socket weld you mean I can weld the hose to PVC? Also do they have spa hose in 25' or more rolls?

Thank for the info

The hose in the picture above is used for vacuuming pools. The fittings are built for use under water, so a little leakage isn't a big problem. Under your tank, even as a drain line, it will likely leak.

Spa flex glues into pvc fittings the same as pvc pipe does. Primer first, then glue. Slight twist on the way in. Hold for a few seconds, depending on the glue you use. Perfect seal. Should last longer than the fish in your tank.

Just glad that as a salt water noob, I finally saw a post I have some first hand knowledge of!

Yep. That's the stuff. Never used that brand before, but it should be fine. Just make sure you hold your glue joints tight long enough. The spa flex can push back pretty bad (again, depending on the glue)

That stuff doesn't look the same as spa flex.. (but its hard to tell from the picture)
This is spa flex..
Notice very little "corrugations" (its smooth for the most part) on the external surface so use with normal PVC fittings works just fine..

To be honest that hose looks stiff and hard to work with. I'll have to take a trip to the hardware store to see but if it's like I think it is then I'll be looking for something else. I need something easy to wrap up and put away and then unroll to fill the DT. Pool hose would have been perfect it's to bad it will leak. Not sure how to tell if hose is safe to use or not. My guess is anything food grade would be fine.

Post a picture of what you're trying to plumb? Will this be a suction line, drain line, or pressure line?

So this would be for water changes then? Corrugated plastic hoses are a pain and make a mess when you're rolling them up. Garden hose may be better. Just make sure it's got plastic fittings.

It for hose going from the mixing station in the garage to the DT in the house.

I'm looking to run 1"D hose. Unfortunately garden hose only goes up to 3/4"D I think. Not really crazy about using braided hose as I've looked at that as well.

One inch is out there but expensive. My fifty foot that I carry in the van was like $130. It came from a place locally that deals with agricultural sprayer parts. You'd need to change the fittings too. One inch will likely come with brass fittings.
