Has anyone ever used sodium carbonate that is made by aqua chem or another brand that is for pools to make minor ph adjustments? It is 100% sodium carbonate.
Food grade baking soda is so readily available, cheap and you can use it as is or turn it into sodium carbonate by just baking it at 350 to 375 *F for 1 to 1-1/2 hours that I really see no purpose in trying to find alternatives that have not fully been tried in an aquarium setting.

You can use the chemistry calculator to determine how much to use.
To make adjustments to the level, just enter the actual water volume of your system, the alkalinity level you are at, the alkalinity level you want to target and select the supplement, in this case baking Soda (Or baked baking soda if you will be using sodium carbonate) and it will give you the amount.
Dissolve it in RO/DI water and add t slowly on a high flow area of your aquarium.
Try to limit each adjustment to no more than 0.5 meq/lt per day (1.4 dKh per day)
For maintenance of the level, to determine the daily amount to add, measure the alkalinity drop over a 24 hour period and use the calculator to determien the amount to add by using the end level as the actual and the strat level as the target.
