I was only gone for a day and a half. When I/we returned, my wife said it smelled bad in the house (I was dragging in the luggage). Upon my entry, it smelled like a seafood market in the summer, nasty. I just knew something in the tank was gone. The wife thought something in the trash was bad, but I knew better. I was reluctant to approach the tank, but had too. I immediately noticed my 6 1/2" Squammy wide open with no mantle exposed. It was receeded towards the bottom of the shell. Did not react to light or when I grabbed it. I pulled it out and wow, did it smell bad.
So now my favority tank specimen is now a gonner. I have had a flatworm infestation for some time now. I did not see these things on the clam at all, but still wondering if they had anything to do with the death. No Pym snails and the Croacea is doing good.
Now I guess I'll just have to replace my favorite clam.
