poorly Maroon Clown

Hi,
I'm concerned about the health of my three year old Clown. His dorsal fin has become ragged and there appears to be a thin white band running from the top of his head and up and over the dorsal. There are also some small air bubbles attached to the white strip! He's spending a lot of time swimming (but stationary) just below the surface.
I've had him over three years and he means a bit more than just a fish in a tank to me if you know what I mean.
I had a mechanical fault in my tank about three weeks ago and had to set up a spare tank to keep him in while I got my show tank fixed. Could this have had an affect? Any advice would be appreciated.

I doubt the move hurt him. Hard to guess, but it sounds like HLLE could be a possibility. You're sure they're air bubbles? Air bubbles wouldn't stay there long; possibly bubbles of pus, or something similar. A pic would really help

maybe a scrape? i wouldn't get worried, maroons are viscous beasts that are impossible to kill.

Yeah, inch for inch; a big female maroon is as tough as any fish we keep. Years ago, before i knew better, I had a big female maroon kill another one while it was still floating in the plastic bag from the lfs.
