Is it absolutely necessary to have an anenome to have a porcelin Crab? I think i remember reading threads of them hosting in some other corals.

not at all....I purchased one hoping that it would find my anemone, but it prefers my green star polyps. They're very easy to care for...I only feed phyto every few days, and he's doing fine.

I got one and put him near the nem. he went in for a couple days and then ventured off into the tank. These guys can not defend themselfs! He was quickly attacked buy several of my critters and lost both arms and ended up dead. They use their nems in the wild for protection and without their nems they are free game.

Mine hosted in the condalyctis I had right out of the gate. But due to several problems at the time, not only did they die but so did the condalyctis.

It was neat when they were there, shoving and sorting out the Condy tentacles.

The darker ones do not associate with anemones I believe. I bought one when I originally set up the tank, he lived for a few months. I got another one about 9 months back and still have him. Both were the darker variety because I do not have an anemone. Very cool cryptic little creature. Dont expect to see him out in the open often, but when only the actinics are on I can usually find him under an overhang or near a cave.
