porcupine puffer colors

I have a porky puffer that I've had for about 5 months now. I've had him since he was a baby, maybe 2 to 3 inches in length.

I know porks can variations their colors, change shading and such, just wondering if anyone else has noticed what I notice on my guy.

At night, usually when it's feeding time, when I turn the dining room light on, I almost always notice how grey his back looks. His sides will remain dark brown with black spots, his belly a nice white, but his entire back is very faded, almost looks like your looking at a black and white photo or something.

Could he be trying to camouflage himself amd blend in with the rocks and sand.

I know other color changes species, like the cuttlefish, will project the colors and patterns below them to the top of the body to blend in.

Is my puffer just blending in, or could there be a skin disease or condition to look out for?

His diet has consisted mainly of whole alaskan shrimp, frozen thawed from omega one.

Ok thanks for the response. overall he appears to be in excellent health and growing steadily just want to make sure I'm paying attention to everything

My pencilfish freaked me out the first night I had them. They're normally brown with silver tummies and a black stripe down each side, but they go silver with diagonal black dashes on their sides when it's night. Now, I didn't know this.
