Porcupine Puffer W/ cloudy eyes and ick!??!?!

This is great now my second favorite fish is having problems!!!! My porcupine puffer has cloudy eyes and ick what can I do?

Start Hypo? Medicate the cloudy eyes first?

Thanks!

Remove fish and put in QT tank. You can give him a fresh water dip first. Treat with copper and furan2. If you want to hypo the QT don't go below 1.015-1.016 spg. Hyposalinity is to relieve the trophont stage of the disease. Cloudy eyes is due to a secondary bacterial infection, that's why you need the antibiotics.

My 02

QT the fish.

Don't do a FW dip .. its not effective against ich and unless you know what your doing it's going to do more harm than good.

Don't treat with copper which is deadly to puffers.

Treat with hypo .. slowly lower the SG to 1.009.

Heres a link discussing how to perform hypo-salinity .. might help.

Lastly .. read the ich FAQ .. treat all fish and if you leave your ST without fish for about a month your show tank should be ich free.

Good luck

Yes .. but antibiotics may have a detrimental impact on your bio filter so make sure you have a large supply of "aged water" on hand to keep ammonia at zero level.
