Porcupine Puffer

I have mine in with hermits, cleaner shrimp, shrooms, rics, polyps, zoas, and a leather. There is a risk, but it works for me.
He is a little over 6"

would you say that it is a good % that they won't eat those things or would you say your situation is abnormal and that you just got lucky...

See I really would like a puffer fish of some sort but that porcupine puffer is my fav. I could settle for a better "REEF FRIENDLY" species. Any suggestions?

The porcupine puffer will be reef safe as a baby, but will grow into a fish that eats all your inverts.

I have read many success stories from people on this site keeping Saddle Valentini Puffers in reefs with no problems. This is a species of puffer that stays smaller and generally will not attack inverts if you raise him from a baby with them around him.

Odds are against you when keeping a puffer in a reef. Inverts are a tasty snack and some corals may be sampled if he's hungry or bored.

From my experience porcupine puffers are safe with mushrooms, zoas, and polyps. Mine ate all my nassarius snails, and I expect he will one day start on the hermits, and shrimp. With that said I wouldn't trade my puffer for any other fish, and all the corals in his tank are frags from friends, and my nano. So they can be replaced. Good luck with whatever you choose.
