Possible first coral tomorrow

so, I could just frag them if they get too big? and how big is too big for aggressive types for my 20 gallon long?

Yes you can. Just make sure you go with a branching hammer coral as opposed to a wall hammer. From my reading, the wall hammers are near impossible to frag. It just so happens I didn't know that when I bought my wall hammer. :hmm4:

Anyway, start with a small frag and enjoy watching it grow. When it gets to big, snap off a branch and give it to a friend.

Some throw out sweepers and others don't. My hammer doesn't.

Sweet! I wanna get a hammer for my next coral.

And sadly, I have no friends that are in the saltwater hobby around here.

Zoas were my first coral and i still
Have the same colony

Sweet :)
I tried feeding my zoas mysis yesterday (not big chuncks) but I don't know what the feeding requirements are. They have 10 heads growing...I'll watch and see if it continues to keep growing. I wanna put them on my rock scape, too. Just indecisive at the moment :)

No one said anything about ricordia! I think those are awesome. Green Star Polyps GSP and Xenia are ones that will spread like crazy. Mushrooms are extremely easy (Make Zoo's seem needy)

Ricordia are a type of mushroom, right? I think I saw some at my local fish store.
I want a polyps and soft coral mixed tank! but I will get some mushrooms, ricordias to be exact. because they are pretty cool :)

You are correct. They are a lovely addition to a reef. I have a few, some Florida and some Yuma. I also couldn't resist the blue mushrooms. Some of the mushroom/rics can compare to any of the most beautiful corals IMO

You can put them anywhere really. They can withstand strong lighting or grow in areas that are in the bottom of the tank or even partially shaded. I chose to gather most of mine front center in the sandbed.

This is just my personal preference, and it has been rearranged several times.

They don't try to out grow one another?

Duncan is a nice one, I have 2. Yes some ricordea rank right up there with the most beautiful corals IMO. I just wish someone would have told me that yumas get as big as saucers....

No necessarily. I put some Clemetines up to high in my tank and they started to crawl away from the light and began melting.

You don't have to feed them, as they are photosynthetic and can provided themselves with all the food they need. With that said, there are different views on feeding. I choose to broadcast feed when I think about it and have some extra time. You can also target feed if you want.

For the Zoas, I think mysis would be to big unless you chopped it up pretty small. Try something like Reef Chili or even Cyclopeeze.

okay, thanks! :)

I love the yuma ric.! bright orange, sweet!
and that duncan, sweet!!

I'm going to get ricodeas sometime, they are simply great looking mushrooms.

But will my 20 gallon long be okay for rics, duncan, zoos, hammer?

With his dual t5 he could put zoa anywhere in his tank and should be just fine. I'm sorry to hear about your clementines. You may target feed if you wish but its not necessary. target feeding will make them grow faster. When I target fed my sunny d's mysis I was literally growing 1 new polyp every day.
