so i bought my first fish today from a lfs that QT's their fish for two weeks before they sell thwm. when i was there i did not notice any signs of ich on the blue reef chromis. however when i got home i notice two or three very small white spots on its fins. im assuming its ich but could it something else? this morning i cant see anything on it either.

It may or may not be. You'll have to keep an eye on the fish to see if more spots develop over the next week or so. Personally, I wouldn't trust a LFS to quarantine properly, and two weeks is an insufficient quarantine period.

i agree. thats why im QT it for about four weeks. i will keep my eye on it. thanks for the advice. its swimming around good and breathing looks good. so hopefully im just being to dramatic

There isn't a LFS anywhere that does a proper job of quarantining new fish. Too time consuming, workers that lack knowledge, etc. Having your own QT/HT is essential and cheap.

I agree. 'LFS' and 'quarantine' are oxymorons ..... Friend of mine runs a terrific LFS, and he says it is basically impossible for him to properly QT fish and recommends buyers do it at home. OK, he runs his fish system at a lower salinity, but all tanks are part of a single system so stuff spreads.

Well i doubt it was ich. The chromi is now swiming around alot more in the QT and it doesent seem to have any type of white spots. It actually just started nibbling at the mysis that i have trying to feed it
