I have a cardinal and clown that are both having problems with an eye.
When I noticed the cardinal's eye the first time I think I saw something attacked to it like a parasite but when I went to grab a net and came back it was gone and the fishes eye just looked a bit clouded over. Like I said it was a passing glance so I did not get the best look at it but from what I saw it look a bit like a worm with a larger bottom side . In text this would best show what it looked like -----8 with the smaller end being what was attached to the fish. When I fist glanced at the fish I thought its eye was hanging out so that give you a bit of an idea how large the mystery thing was.
Since the thing was not hanging on anymore I figured there was not much I could do but when I checked the next morning the cardinals eye looked a bit worse but I also had a clown who's eye was showing signs of clouding over as well. I did a bit of research and every thing I could find pointed toward a bacterial infection causing pop eye. Since it happened to 2 fish I kind of assumed it probably was not a parasite that I thought I saw on the cardinal but now I'm not sure.
I set up a hospital tank and have been treating both fish with maracyn 2 for the last 3 days with my but they don't seem to be effected. The cardinals eye looks worse every day and the clowns seems to be unchanged and looks good compared to the cardinal. Maybe it was just to late for the cardinal and since the clown is not getting worse maybe the maracyn 2 is working but I want to cover all the based to make sure I don't have a bigger problem on my hands.
Does anyone know of some type of larger parasite that would attack a fishes eye and cause the symptoms I explained.
Around a week earlier I did add a leather coral, clam and second clown (I had 2 but one decided to jump one night
)to the tank so a parasite/bacteria could have been introduced then.
I really appreciate any help you can give me, I am very bummed about the 2 fish that have been effected and I would be very upset if this ended up effecting the other 4 fish I have.
I'm going to try to get some pictures of both fishes eyes but it's going to be hard to do.
Thanks for any help.
