From a very uneducated perspective, it really seemed to me to be bacterial or possibly fungal or viral. In any case, I am very glad you eventually overcame whatever it was.

I did'nt read the whole thread but won't diatamateous earth filter out pathogens?. The d/e for pool filters. It says it right on the bag. Wondering if you could run it temporary in the sock daily possibly.

i read an article online, hope i can find it, that mentioned a virus or bacteria that killed huge sections of reefs. sections that were once thought to have died due to global warming.

i know there are a ton of bacteria in the water column. it would have been cool if you could have isolated the bacteria or whatever it is and tried different medications on it.

whatever it was, glad its over for you and hope from now on your luck will improve. this hobby can be really really frustrating sometimes. the fact that so many things that are out of our control can go wrong prove that this hobby long term is only for the die hard reefer!
