Possible Setup

Right now in my 55 gallon, I have a H. Crispa but I want to setup a 30 gallon tank and have it a species only tank with my two A. Clarkii. I have a 150 watt DE Hamilton MH unit that I would like to use for lighting, a Octopus 150 skimmer, 3 poweheads for flow, a wavemaker, a 20 gallon long sump and a mag 900.

Got some questions

1. Is 150 watts enough for a Crispa in a 30 gallon tank? I am not sure of the demensions of yet but I would say its not going to be any deeper than 20 inches.

2. I would really like to put my Flame Angel in the 30 gallon setup also but I don't want to much bioload. Is this possible. My Octopus skimmer on a 30 gallon I think would make up for it.

3. Should I use Tunze or Maxi jet powerheads? I have access to both.

That will be fine with a 20 inch deep tank, you have nothing to worry about.

With the skimmer your using, the octopus, you will be fine with that bio-load. I kept a flame angel in my 29g forever with my clownfish and anemone.

Honestly, i don't think it will matter, i don't like powerheads and avoid them at all cost in my displays. That being said, i have never used a small tunze powerhead. Only the bigger ones. I would probably do 2 tunze's so you don't have to do as many maxijets. But that is just me.

Thanks illcssd.

I think I will try two tunze powerheads like you mentioned.

One of the things I am trying to figure out with this setup is I would like to do a 1 inch sandbed but Crispa's like to have a sandbed of at least 3 inches. I wonder if it will impact my Crispa in the long run if I don't have a deep sandbed. Do you think 1 inch will be fine?

Thanks

what i do with both haddoni, crispa and any other sand loving anemone is make a spot for them with about 3 inches of sand, and leave the rest 1 inch. ime they will be fine without it, as they will just dig under a rock, but i think they perfer having more sand to bury through.

i love my tunze nano streams they are a plesure to work with. no suction cups to deal with and you can really adjust how much flow you want from 700gph to 1500GPH by doing the simple mods

i think the magnets makes them safer than maxi jet IMO

like austin (who has great advice) i have a 1 inch ssb and 3 inches in the spots where my haddoni are. they are both atached to the glass at the bottom of the tank anyway.

Both you and Austin are giving me great advice. I think I am going to go with somewhere in the range of a 30, 35 gallon thats not deep. I would like it to be a shallow cube but am not sure where to find one like that. I might get a custom tank. Do you know a website that sells cutom tanks GSMguy or Austin?

GSMguy, how much do the tunze nano streams cost anyways? I have never seen one for sale.

if you want a custom tank there are only two places i would look

aquarium obsessed, and
AGE aquariums and glass enviroments

the nano stream 6025 is 62 bucks

you wont need a ton of flow for crispa

if i had to get one pump for a 30 or 40g medium flow tank i would get one controlable tunze nano 6055 $201. 1500gph-400gph fully controllable. on tunze controller.

the other tank i love is the oceanic tech cube 45 its a 24inch cube with eurobracing low profile center overflow and 3 sides starfire.

Isn't acrylic cheaper? If so, I would actually like to go with acrylic. I like the looks of it. Not to mention its lighter.

A local guy, a local freind of mine, james, at envision acrylic's does the best work around and isn't really spendy. Lifetime warranty and all that. He built steve weast's tank(850g), and builds tank's for all the stores and people around here.

Thanks illcssd. I just got a quote from aquariums obsessed for 535 dollars for a 31.2 gallon tank just regular glass. That's insane!

lol

go acrylic its much cheaper. that quote probobly doesnt include shipping.

FWIW the oceanic tech tank is like 450 and it is starfire and no shipping that is an amazingly nice tank.

I cleaned out my 20 long gallon sump yesterday. The shumo is divided by a thick piece of acrlic. I want a place for the skimmer and the other section for my mag 900. My Octopus produces a lot of microbubbles but the acrylic would not allow any in on the other section.

The guy John I talked to gave me a quote of 203 bucks but I would have to wait a month and I really don't want to wait that long.

i have no experience with acrylic.

if i had to do it for a small tank i really like the oceanic 45 tech tank. they are built like a tank and really nice but it is twice as much money, im sure the shipping on that tank would be 50 at least. so 200 difference.
