Possible Stocking list. Please critique...

I am currently in the planning stages of a future upgrade, and would love to have my possible fish list looked over by those of you with more experience.

The tank will be a 135 gallon cube (36x36x24) set up as a peninsula style mixed reef. Water depth will be about 21-22 inches. Sand bed depth is up in the air right now, depending on final wrasse selection (recommendations?).

And on to the stock list...

Amphiprion Percula - Percula Clownfish x2 (pair of onyx)
Paracheilinus Mccoskeri - McCosker's Flasher Wrasse x5 (1 male, 4 female) or Paracheilinus cyaneus - Blue Flasher Wrasse x5 (1 male, 4 female)
Pterapogon kaudernii - Bangaii Cardinal x2
Stonogobiops Yashia - Yashia Hase Shrimp Goby x2 (symbiotic pistol shrimp?)
Pseudochromis Fridmani - Orchid Dottyback
Pseudocheilinus ocellatus - Mystery Wrasse
Pterois antennata - Antennata Lionfish

I am very intested in keeping an S. Gigantea carpet anemone in this tank aswell, and am assuming that this would likely mean the gobies are out?

In regards to the lion. I love the look of the antennata, but realize that lions aren't usually kept in reefs. This fish would be like a showpiece. Would it be a danger to the other fish on my list? Is it possible at all, to keep ornamental shrimps (cleaners, peppermints) with it? Would they have to be established before the lion is introduced? At the end of the day, I would take this fish off of my list if it means that I can keep the rest of the list and the ornamental shrimps.

Would the mystery wrasse and flashers co-exist peacefully?

And finally, I guess, would this be too heavily stocked for a tank this size?

Thanks for your time, and happy holidays! :celeb3:

Forget the lion.................he'll eat the fish & shrimp

I wouldn't risk a mystery wrasse (too aggressve) with flasher/fairies in a tank your size.

Too many wrasses..........maybe cut that down 6.

The fridmani may cause a problem for the goby, but I might try that if I put the goby & shrimp in first.

Thanks for your response Ed.

I figured the flashers (5 blue OR 5 mccoskers) would be ok, and give the male enough ladies to impress that I would get a good showing of his colours.

I'd love to get more input from anyone willing to share their opinion.

Thanks again,
Scott

I wouldn't do the lion. And I would do the group of mccoskers. I'm not sure on the carpet with gobys... If you could keep them in seperate corners it would be ok. But carpets are very sticky and one wrong move for the goby and he'll be a goner.

A carpet anemone will eat your flasher wrasses as will a lion fish. A mystery wrasse will often be incompatible with flasher (and fairy) wrasses.

Haddonis are the only anenomes that have a rep for eating fish. It's unlikely for a Gigantea to eat any fish. As long as you don't put the anemome right next to the goby's den you'll likely be fine.

But in all the online material, it states that these anemones are fed whole fish, shrimp and krill. The Percs will "contribute" to its feeding... Hmmmm...Don't know that I would trust several hundred dollars worth of specimen fish in a tank with a creature that could eventually blanket the entire bottom...

JMHO.

Congrats on new tank. Almost went with the big cube myself. The Fridmani has been somehwat peaceful in my experience. He kinda hugs the rocks and does not bother my McKoskers. The Mckosker sticks to the water column most of the time. Again, the lionfish would make expensive snack out of half of those fish.

Thanks for the response, and merry christmas!

How are you liking your i-Tech skimmer? The 200 is what im considering using for this tank.

dottys

I think dotty actually get a raw deal because of a few bad apple like the bicolor. They is a select few that arent overly aggressive. You can actually add multiple fridmanis if you really fond of them but no matter what kind of dotty you probably want to do it last , especially if you want your flashers to thrive. I have a Springers, Neon, Sunrise, and a Fridmani in my 180 and they get along fine with a pair of Hawaiian Flame Wrasses that I added later. Another fish to look at might be a Yellow Assessor they are super hardy peaceful fish with a lot of personality but would have to go in before the dottyback.

You have got some great advise here. The lion will need to go, the mystery wrasse wont like those flashers, and the pseudo may or may not be a problem. I know its an orchid but those gobies are pretty passive fish.
