i currently have a 55gal tank with 60+lbs of dry rock. the tank has been running since sept. 2010. i have a 700gph and a 250gph power head for movement. i have a 15 gal sump with a reef dynamics INS-80 skimmer(says rated to 250gal) i also have a mag 9.5 return throttled back some with a ball valve. a 4 bulb 48" T-5 HO aquatic life light fixture. a life reef overflow with flexible hoses. i run fluval activated carbon. changed out every other week.

stocking is currently
2 fuzzy lions(peacefull tward each other. both eating frozen mysis and silversides)
1 marine betta(a loner. eating frozen mysis)
1 ghost ribbon eel(pretty active and leaves the fish alone, eating frozen silversides)

now for the question. i have a cockatoo waspfish in another tank that takes frozen food no problem. i would like to put him in this tank(if it does not overcrowd it) cause i would like to go a different direction with the other tank.

so would i be able to add the cockatoo to the 55gal with the current stocking?

for the other tank i would like to do a bunch of research on octos and move the cockatoo out. the tank he is in now is a 46bow.

let me know what you think

thanks in advanced

I have no experience with ribbon eels, but that would be my main concern. Cockatoos are unfortunately a fairly "easily-swallowed" shape.

if you look up the eel you can see ithe very small mouth.

this one is mine. other than the eel do you think it would work?

dont quote me on this but i would say yes. you better have good filtration because thats a pretty big bioload.

i agree. i run carbon thats changed bi-weekly and i run a reef dynamics INS-80 skimmer. it says "its rated to a 250gal tank". the specs are on their website. i empty the skimmer every week. i also perform water changes every week.

sounds good i would say running some sort of micro-algea, (I have prefrence to cheatomorpha) to keep down the nitrates. From what i can tell with good condiotions it can flourish and leave nitrates at 0!

well my sump is not big enough for that. it houses the skimmer and the heater and the return pump. ifi put it in the sump it would get caught in the skimmer. it has 2 chambers. skimmer and return. is their another way you would suggest that i could put that in???

You'll be fine. A ribbon eel shouldn't bother anyone if it eats. A well-fed eel has better things to do than try to eat a venomous fish. Just be careful when spot feeding. Eels tend to bite anything that moves when foods in the water.

lol thanks. and thats funny about the spot feeding thing and they bite. my gf knows. she was spot feeding and took her eyes of the tank for a second. i was not at that tank i was feeding the other one. all the sudden she screams and drops the tongs in the bottom of the tank. i asked her what happened she said the eel bit her hand. i laughed. she said is scared her more than it hurt.
