Possibly moving to sunbright?

I'm possibly going to move to sunbright in the next 2 months and as of now have my 180 reef up fot sale.I don't want to sell it but am daunted by the thought of moving it so far! I've hurd such bad stories of long distance moves.Florida to Tenneessee is a long way to move that much stuff.I chated with a felow reefer by the name of Skwirl last night and told me that there was indeed a club in the knoxville area and that there is a good amount of people in the hobby.I'd love to keep the tank and make the transfer but was afraid due to lack of local support. My local fish store is at the end of my street. And I have a bunch of buddies in the area to swap and get halp from on emergency situations.Just wanted to see what is like up there!

Just moved up from florida my self left my 55g but my mother in law brought her 90g she paid a lfs to hold on to her corals and fish and stuff moved the tank up here started it let it cycle for a month then went back down got an oxygen tank for all the bags and brought eveything back. everything lived and made the trip no problem.

Well I guess that would do it.Make 2 trips, I was thinking on transfering water and all so I didn't have to go through that big of a cycle. But that defenitly puts a different perspective on it.I'm pretty sure I could get some one to hold on to my live stock. That would make it alot easier.I'll have to give that some thought! Thanks for the idea!! And hello to you Dave,I'll hope to be herin more from you guys once I make the transition!! Here's a couple pics of what I don't want to leave!

Welcome to TN. I hope your move goes well and that your bring your tank with you. The Ft. Pierce area is nice. I spent a summer at HBOI taking classes.

Or just sell off your livestock and bring tank/rock/sand with minimal water and start over with corals and fish :) Your stuff looks nice but not real rare. Fish and corals are the cheaper part of the set up. Just a thought. I would just get new sand to be sure of no alage issues in the future but if you re-use your sand I would wash it very good first to rid it of all the junk it has collected. Drsfostersmith has a great price on sand and no added shipping charges for it.

Another option is to overnight your livestock to someone here to hold until you get moved and have your tank ready. There a few off us that have extra holding tanks already set up. and others that may have extra room in their display tank. :bum:

Wow, it's nice to know ther are still people on this world who will do somthing for a total stranger. Sorry about the legnth on responce, I was golfing and if I didn't take my wife for a walk on the beach tonight I wouldn't have had no RC time.Commenting on Angela's idea, I have been thinking on doing just that.It would indeed put a lot less stress and ergency on the move if I were to sell all my livestock and start over. And she is very correct, there isn't really anything in there thats not easily replaceable. But my shark! I know I could get another one, he's just really cool and I've hurd that the mortality rate on hatching your own is not to well for a beginner. But I am leaning towards doing that. Keeping a few frags and a few of my pieces in the nano and selling off the rest. But I will keep in mind the possibility of shipping,I just don't know if it will be worth it.I guess I have got some real good deals though so it might!I will defenetly keep in touch though.I'm not so discouraged now that I now ther e are people like ya'll up there. Thanks again for all the support,And thanks skwirl for theadvice on coming to this post!

I'm a FL (Miami) transplant also. You cant imagine the difference in people in TN vs FL until you are here. They dont call it the Volunteer State for nothin'.
Coming from Miami, it was like a whole different country! Everyone speaks english, although with a twang - which I thought was neat of them - until I caught myself saying "U'ens oughta..."

Come on up, it may be the best thing you ever did for your family.

Squeak, that is the main reason I want to come.I don't want my children growing up around here.I'm one of a dieing breed. A Native!! I've been up ther 5 times in the last year and have loved every second of it,And dreded knowing I was gonna have to come back down here.As far as the twang goes, well I've always had a little of that, bein southern and from what used to be a backwood redneck town.It just aint what I grew up in here no more.If you noticd I'm tryin to get as far away from civilization up ther as possible and still be able to support my familly. But back to fishy talk,I'm in the process of selling off most of my livestock, or at least finding buyers who don't mind waitin a few weeks. The rest will get traded to the local fish store for drygoods salt, cemicals etc..... I'll keep a few small itemsand let them stay in my sons nano until I either rob them back or get knew stuff.and to agree with Angela, the livestock was the cheaper part.I'll keep all my LR 'Sand and some of the water but will start from scrath from there. But I might need someone to babysit my shark.I just can't let the little guy go .I hope someone up ther won't mind.

How big is your shark? So you want a reef tank AND a shark in the same tank? Good luck with that... I think you are gonna need to surprise the wife during unpacking and "find" a new FOWLR tank for the shark.

Ha Ha, Yea she would love that one! Actually, he's been good so far besides bein a little clumbsy! He nocks stuff over every so often but so does other stuff. He's got his litttle rock of his own he lives under. He's outon the prowel right now though.I'd give him about 8.5-9". Just a babe. When I 1st got the egg I only had a 46 gallon bow front, Then I found out that bamboo sharks get 2-3' long as an adult. So I got a bigger tank.I know ,still not big enough!

I would be willing to help out as well. I can't babysit a shark but I bet Art could (awcurl).

You will definitely find out that we are an extremely helpful bunch who actually gets along really really well. Just ask and you will get all the help you need!

yea i dont think mel could house a shark... she already has a man eating naso that takes little kids lunch money.

Once again Thankyou guy's and ladies.I'm sure once the time comes I will be needing a hand.I'll be coming up in the 2nd week of june.My parents just baught a house up there and won't be moving there for a couple of years,so they said we can come up and see if it's what we really want before we make that step to buy a house.which is really good cause I want to make sure I can keep steady work within an hour drive.Looks like for now I might get hired on at the prison in wartburg. They are expanding and I'm a sprinkler fitter so there is about a year of work ther. That should give me a while to feel it out and see if that company will be worth making a long term stay with.
