Post your cool links here of anything you find interesting..

You bet they will! Some will buy them because of bad or incomplete information. Others because they present a challenge. Many because they are pretty. It is however, good to know those fish which present potential problems, and what those problems may be. Unfortunately, the vast majority of those sold will be to people who aren't aware that there is any problem at all! A shame, but one that will certainly continue!

I think that's a good list, Chris. I don't think it's necessarily saying to never buy any of these fish, but some degree of caution and responsibility must be exercised if you choose to do so. I do wish it had more specific info on why certain fish are difficult to keep. Diet, aggressive and habitat don't really tell me much, but at least it prompts me to do a little research (which I should be doing anyway) if I don't already know why these are areas of concern.

As for being caught and bought, if enough people stop buying them, they'll stop catching them. Perhaps that's not a realistic expectation, but it has to start somewhere.

As of the late 70s it is against the law to catch dolphins off americas shores under the endangered spiecies act, unless fish and wild life rescue a stranded dolphin and deim it unrelesable,

I think it would be a good idea for this club to start a list of what
fish that make good tank animals as well as a husbandry list of the animals that are harder to keep so the club would have more to offer new members and old. just a thought. i will help start if you all like the idea, it would be nice to have a index of husbandry standereds for some of these animals, there so many different types and kinds its almost to much work to do it right, hower many hands make the work light.

A quick reference list is always nice to have but the information is readily available already. I think that the purpose of this thread (and RC as a whole) is to enable folks to gain the information necessary to succeed in the hobby.

I personally feel that the following link is one of the best sources for quality information on most areas of the hobby:

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/index.html

Also, I think that most responsible individuals take the time to do research in areas of the hobby that they are not familiar with prior to making a decision.

Chris, although your idea of a quick reference list is good, there are already many out there and I feel it's more important to know where to go to find them. Good job in finding the list and Kudos for sharing it!!! :D

There is one fish that petland keeps bringing in that i just can't believe why. The Cleaner Wrasse. They put one in every one of their tanks because they believe it will prevent ich(I'm assuming this, but it seems obvious enough to me). I can't believe they sell 20% of them before they die in their tanks. I know its possible to keep them alive but I'd hate to see the ratio of how many die to every one that lives, and not just a few months.

This is a demand side industry and education is the key. Unfortionatly there are those out there who do not want to become educated, might not have the resources to do so, or are misled by the LFS they go to.

So then, make a new post and start the conversation inside of it.

Ever wondered what to buy someone who has everything or likes novelty things? Do they like coffee? Try this http://www.animalcoffee.com
Its touted as the worlds best, rarest, and most expensive coffee. I got some for my dad and boss this Christmas. They loved it! Not to mention they had to take it around and show every living person they knew. The only downside was it took like 2.5 weeks for me to get it due to it coming from overseas.

Look at the small sample of the coffee that is how it looks exactly when it is collected. Looks like an animal turd!

I do also, but was looking at adding a second one just for safety reasons. Mine is just wired into a powercord without all the other stuff. For safety reasons I'm wondering if I should just buy one of the kits and go with 3 valves. The 3rd for the topoff tub to shut off the pump if it runs dry... and it has many times already.

I am going mod my skimmer. What size pipe should I use to run my sedra 3500? Anyone know? Guess I could measure my current one.

I am going to do a gate valve and a recirc. mod. I think I might run two pumps. Does anyone know how to order a sedra pump? Website?
