Travis...this coral has definitely taken on an unusual growth pattern but i believe my lighting is on the lower side as it sits to the side of a 10K 250 DE and will recieve some light from a 20K 250DE situated a distance away. As Steve mentioned the coloration of the coral where it is shadowed is almost green/brownish while the lighted side appears lighter than expected. However a lot of my corals tend to get really bright/light in this system. The flow would be medium, neither direct nor passive, but random chaotic created by the cross of two tunze streams in the water column above.

The growth has been steady and accelerates as the coral continually adjusts to the system. But to me its still slow as compared to the CBT below

What lights are ya running on your tank? How long have you had the Oregon for? How high up is it? Calcium, Alk? Thanks.

Hi Maximus,

I am running 400 watt radiums on HQI's. The tort is directly below one of them. My tank is 30" tall and the lights are about 9" above the water. The tort is about 2/3's the way up the tank. I've had this frag for about 6 months or so. It has just now started putting on appreciable growth in the last 2 months. Calcium is 400 and alk is 9 dKH.

mine is in a 28" tall tank about 6-7" below the water surface under 250wHQI Phoenix bulbs about 8" above the water in ROIII reflectors (shew.... that was a mouthfull)

i have had mine since may-jun '03 (cant remember exactly when)

i find mr weasts comments on flow with this coral very interesting.
i sent a frag to a friend and his waterflow nearly killed it until he relocated it (then it fell behind his rocks .... 2nd frag i sent is doing well and notably under a low flow area of his tank... i changed up my flow by redirecting a stream and overnite had the damage seen above.

i am on the fence with my ID as well.... everyone says oregon... i had always thought it was an ORA derivative.

I just picked mine up last weekend from Upscales. I just a tiny nub now, polyps only extending at night currently. I haven't even removed it from the acrylic plug yet, waiting to see some more polyp extention and any amount of growth.

impur, how would you remove it from the acrylic plug anyway?

You could just leave it on the plug and epoxy the plug to a rock. Eventually, the acro will encrust over it. Nice frag btw.

Here is the requested Upscales Tort...actually they call it "Super Blue Acropora," but its the only one on their website that it could be, none of their stuff seems to be for sale though cuase the prices are all set at 0.
I guess I should have put myself on the waitlist before I posted all these huh? Oh well, I'll get one sooner or later (hint hint anyone) () : )

Soutas; Best color under high light and medium current.
Display tank info, the tort is at the top in the middle
"Four 400 watt 10K bulbs with four 160 watt VHO actinics and four 96 watt power compact blues. "The tanks dimension are six feet by 30" by25".Temperature is kept at approximately 77 degrees. Salinity is kept at 1.022."The Filtration for the display tank is a wet dry with two Mag 1800's returning water through two 3/4 inch sea swirls
40 gallon refugium
A three foot skimmer is in the sump area
reverse osmosis w/de-ionizer
feed the tank heavily every day"

There ya go..from their site..I'm sure upscales has their info too, Not sure about respective frag tanks

ctxmonitor, impur's frag would actually be very easy to remove from that mount. Just slide a flathead screwdriver between the base and the mount and it would come off all in one piece. I do this with all of my Bali aquacultured nowdays as they can come with some nasty nuisance algae growing on the plugs.

grimmjohn, thanks for posting those pics. I'm sure the respective owners don't mind. I guess I never thought to look at Upscales' site to see if there was a pic of the colony. It is a nice looking colony but I'm suprised it isn't larger. I suppose they keep it fragged well as there is such a demand. I was hoping Jim Huang (reefcam) from rainbowcorals would see this thread and post a pic of his colony. He has a very nice one.

So who else is holding out on the Oregon tort colonies? Post them babies up!

here is my frag of 'oregon tort'. pretty sure it isnt but was traded to me as one. looks more like my shawn bennet tort...in fact...exactly like a shawn bennet tort...but i still call it my oregon tort none the less!

i've had it for 5-6 months and only doubled in length...no new coralites coming off the side. also, it had a streak of green in it when i first got it but has since disappeared and has become a solid blue.

I agree, that looks very similar to my SB tort. Sadly, my SB tort grows even slower than my OB tort.
