Potential Speakers For This Year

Hi Guys and Gals!

I have started communicating with potential speakers for this year. Is there anyone in particular, best case scenario, that you all would like to hear speak, see frag, etc etc?

:D

I, personally, would like to hear someone talk about reef tanks as ecosystems and what we can do to create the best possible conditions for our tank inhabitants. It is always interesting for me to hear more about how my system works or could work.

Would also be interesting to hear about commercial propagation and what techniques the pros use to grow out corals fast, encourage morphing, and take cuttings in ways that encourage better growth.

I hope this is helpful!

Steven Pro is booked through September at the moment, but he fits the bill for whatyou are talking about, Dave. All he wants from us if he comes is travel arrangments and a honorium...

I'd like to have 3 speakers this year- one in the spring, one in the summer, and one in the fall depending on how fundraising goes. Looking for two more names?

:D

Sweet. We might as well get Calfo and Farley while were at it. ;)

I remember Denise mentioning that we had someone living in the state that we might be able to bring in to talk to us. Can't remember who though.

someone to present General knowledge would be good as well...
Use it as a time to introduce people to the salt world.. Either Reef or FO.. Greg Hiller would be a nice choice i think... Marc Levinson from the talking reef podcastand Melevsreef.com would be a nice option as well... he could be a two-fer as he is friendly with the BRS..
Where we are a newer club we might be able to do have better success with the "not quite names we all recognize" people.

I was going to suggest Marc Levinson also. He would be great presenting general knowledge or on a focused topic. Some might be very interested to hear him talk about custom built acrylic sumps.

Honestly I am more interested in the topic then the name of the presenter. Right now I am focused on improving my system and just getting into some propagation.

I think they all sound great! I personnally would like to hear Anthony again. I now have a real guest room and would have the added benefit of getting those posters autographed! Sue

Natureblast, I agree wholeheartedly on all the above. Ron Shimek is an authority on host anemones, I would really like to hear what he has to say. I have a little pamphlet type book of his and have found it invaluable on caring for my anemones. Sue

Terry Seigal (sp?) is the guy who just moved to Portland last fall..

SWAM has already hosted Calfo and Hiller in the not so distant past, IMO I would like to see some indepth talks on lighting.. Sanjay (sp) would be nice, Randy Holmes Farley speaks at BRS often, maybe he will take a trip to ME... he talks alot about marine chemistry...photography would be good too....

Levinson and Schmiek are good ones too...

Trying to piggyback with BRS or the new NH club might open some more doors to great speakers too.

ActuallyI just found Terrys RC name... it is tbsiegel if ya want to try him too Laurie. And he is local!

Denise

Will get right on it now... Thanks!

Denise, Sanjay will be in MA this year already- see the Greg Hiller thread. I was excited to see Fatheree on there as well, since I missed Barry.
