i agree with those topics even though i have yet to attend a meeting and im not actually a member yet...yet being the key word there. but i think those are all good topics. heres a couple i thought of:

whose running sand beds and why?
DIY your tank to the fullest...anyone?
Large reef systems and how they work

Mark

i can tell you how to DIY your tank.i saved at least $700 on my 90g set up by making alot of the stuff myself.

Is there any particular vendor that might be of interest? For the hell of it I contacted Two Little Fishies being they are in Florida, but their rep is booked till 2008. I dont mind contacting another if you have one in mind. Does anyone know the people at ORA or local Wholesaler that could have someone talk at a meeting?

i too will be able to talk about the DIY your tank because im working on doing it for my new 210g project. as much DIY stuff as possible. all good topics none the less

One topic i would like to see if possible is one of the computer guys possibly donating some time to update the TampaReef website....i noticed the other day the last past meeting post was 11/05 and some of the contacts are wrong.

Ok guys... this is great stuff.. but we need to organize!!!!

We need to make sure we are not getting ahead of ourselves.

Contacting vendors is great, however, we want to have an organized approach for this. I have man ideas on this myself. We want to be sure that we do not have multiple people working on the same vendor, that would make us look unorganized, and tick them off. Their time is valuable, and we do not want to waste it, same goes with our time.

Keep the list of topics going...

Let us make this a major point of discussion for the April meeting...sounds like we may need to get an election or creation of comities and start to construct this in an organized way. we put tons of effort in designing our systems, I am sure we can use that mid set with this too.

Julian spoke at our PB marine club several years ago, and he spoke at MACNA in Orlando last year, other vendors have other reps available too, stores love to introduce new equipment, teachers make excellent speakers,

hell, we could all watch a Reef movie or Inconvenient Truth on somebody's big screen TV....

I do not think that finding speakers will be too hard...

and if we can get the club active, and get a steady income, we should be able to bring in some of the big names twice a year or so.

This can be a ton of fun, and should not be to terribly difficult to pull off.

I'm not a member yet, but I plan on joining the club. I'm not sure if I can make this month's meeting yet. Someone brought up the issue of the club website. I have been a programmer (for lack of a better term) for the last 15 years and would be willing to help out when life/work permit.

We'll be in touch.

Can you build a site like this one?

http://www.atlantareefclub.org/

I happen to think that is the best club site around. I have met the gentleman that built it, he is a great programmer. He has all sorts of amazing features built into it. Check out his forums, wow!

Depending on the capabilities on the host I'm sure we can come up with something. Does anybody know the host company? I did some trace routing and it looks like you go through rapidsys.com. I'm not sure if you guys use them for a hosting company or internet access and someone is running the site on a box at their home.

The atlanta site is using a product from here http://www.vbadvanced.com/
Depending on the capabilities of the tampabayreef hosting company we could probably use the same thing. They did not build this from scratch they simply use the product and fill in content.

I did a little more research the product they use is vbulletin and it is based on php and mysql technologies. If you are using rapidsystems for hosting they are a linux host and support php and mysql. It would be a matter of talking to them and finding out if we can load the backend software for the site.

How about some input/direction from the current President! Who is it? I believe the President should take charge. He doesn't have to do everything, but he should get us organized or at least direct traffic.
