Potter Angel help.

What's with my potter angel? It has cloudy eyes and messed up fins. He is also just hanging out behind a rock instead of actively grazing. Ammonia and nitrites were 0. Nitrates were between 15-20, but I did a 15 gallon water change after testing. He started look bad yesterday. He was a good eater. He ate pellets. I haven't caught any fish messing with him.

I was going to treat the tank with kanaplex but only have enough for 20 gallons. I also have melicate green but can't find it. My tank is 90 gallons with a 40 gallon refugium.

Are both eyes cloudy? If so, you are probably dealing with a bacterial infection.

Kanaplex is basically Kanamycin, right? Not sure I would use Kanamycin in a DT, esp if you have corals/inverts.

Kanaplexs main ingredient is Kanamycin. I can put it in the food so not that much will get in the water column. That's is if he will eat. I have used it in my tank anyway. If no other ideas come around I am going to get more tomorrow and use it.

One eye is real cloudy the other eye isn't that bad. Only one pectoral fin is damaged. I just turned on my night light. He came out and his swimming wasn't that great. Now it is much better. I soaked some pellets in kanaplex and used the rest of what I has in the tank. He is also eating.

As a general rule, one cloudy eye can mean possible injury... two cloudy eyes usually means infection. Sometimes the fish's natural immune system can beat the infection without antibiotics, esp if you start dosing their food with vitamin supplements. Or in your case, antibiotics. If you have a UV, run that as well. It will sometimes prevent the harmful bacterium in the water column from spreading. IME, a UV actually does for bacterial infections what everyone wished it did for parasites.
