Potter's Angel

I'm ho[ping to upgrade to a 40 breeder soon and a Potter's is on the top of my fish list. I know they can be hard to get to eat and I have no problems with that. My question is how reef safe are they? I know every one is different and that they can snap at any moment and decimate a coral, but are they more likely to eat one of my acros than lets say a flame or cherub? Also how agressive are they? I know that dwarf angels can be quite mean as I've kept many cherus only to havem have some disease or start nipping and the last one I had got to be a bit mean to a coris wrasse right before he started nipping on my acans.

You pretty much just answered your own question

There is no way around the fact that they are hit or miss. Some will pester coral while others are perfect reef citizens. My potters was great in my reef tank, but I have heard of others that have been very destructive.

That's what I thought everyone was going to tell me, I went to a LFS one tme and they hasd a potter's in a display perfect fish, not nipping leaving everyone alone. They had two for sale one was in a tank with some large zoa rocks and he was going at them to the point they had to net him out, while the other was just in a tank by itself peking at the rocks.

I've had mine for about 6 months. Never had an issue. I have a lot of SPS frags mini colonies for him to munch on but never has.

Mine was perfect (had no clams though)

The tanks was also fed twice a day and given sheet algae every other day

mine hasn't really bother anything... I have lps, clams, zoas, sps etc.

I have a pair, the one that I have had for over a year now hasn't touched anything. The other one (( been with me for 5 months, in this tank for 2 months )), might be starting to nip at my clam. While I haven't seen it do it yet, the clam is closed up a bit more often now.

I have a single Potter's with everything from zoas to SPS, clams included. I got it as a 1" fish and it is still very small. It's left everything alone so far but I also feed at least once a day.

I love mine, got it as a real tiny juvi, it pics at my clam and the mucus on my montis but leaves the acros. I really does not do any damage to the inverts it samples.

what's the safest reef safe dwarf angel?? i just recently upgraded lights and would like to start getting some corals and the only non reef safe fish i have is a Coral Beauty angel, so i would need to find a replacement for him if i were to do corals...

Its more of coral-safe on a fish by fish basis.

I've had flames, potters and cherubs that were all fine. Other people haven't.

Keeping them well fed is more important than breed IMO. But there are some that are worse than others

alright, aside from dwarf angels, whats another fish i could replace the coral beauty with that will be more like a center piece fish? Any of the butterflies reef safe? or any other slightly larger fish?

Butterflies- probably not

What size tank?
Maybe a tang if you are big enough

Most of the on-line fishstores tell you if a fish is reef safe in the description
