potters angels with corals, experiences?

The LFS had a gorgeous Potters that was eating and at a reasonable price. I almost bought but held off as I'm worried he might go after my acans or micros...I'd be fine getting rid of my brain or trumpets, but not my acans/micros. Anyone have experience with Potters angels in their reefs?

I have had my Potter's since January, s/he hasn't touched anything in my tank.

Anything = Lots of SPS, two Haddoni anemones, two clams, zoas, and one acan.

Couple of pictures of the guy,

mcliffy, potters like the rest of the family of pygmy angels are a hit or miss.

I have one and it's been behaving pretty well and my tanks is completely sps.

Good luck find one.

Have had mine for just over a year.

For corals have mostly LPS / Zoos / Mushrooms. No problems messing with anything.

Can be mean especially with other Angels and some wrasses from my experience. I do have 3 wrasses in with him now (Leopard / Mystery / Possum) and he has been good with them. Had a Fairy Wrasse that he hated, had to get rid of it, as he kept it on one side of the tank, and chased it when it went anywhere else...

mine only had a taste for micros. ironic that they are the most expensive pieces in the tank. IMO they r not to be trusted around micros and acans. all of my micros r now in a friends tank until i can catch the little monster.

shoot, I was about to pull the trigger on this guy til I saw your post :)

now heres the other question, I plan to add a big boy or two (regal, emperor, or blue face), and am pretty much willing to part with any of my LPS to have them...would the potters be a good litmus test?

My potters eats any kind of fleshy lps and constantly nips at one particular specimen of gorgonia. He nipped an open brain down to skeleton before I realized it. Also, he's kind of mean.

He has left my clams alone and shows no interest in leathers, zoanthids, or other softies.

If you're willing to live without lps it might work.

No, I don't believe using a potters angel as a lithmus test for placing other large angels in your tank would be a good way to judge how a large angel will act. Dwarf and Large Angels tend to have different eating habits and different destructability levels.

I've had a potters for a year and a half and he has never bothered one of my corals, except for possibly one. I have acro's, monti's, euphylliads, yumas, ricordea fl's, cespetularia, favia and one hitchhiker coral that I think is a pavona. The pavona is the only one he might have taken a liking to as occasionally I would see him pick at the center and move on. The coral does/did have a dead spot in the center that has recently grown in. So he was either picking at algae in the dead spot or it did not bother the coral at all.

With LPS I would imagine the regal would be your safest bet although I've not read much about the Blue Face, but I have heard Emperor's are usually only safe with sps, and that can be temporary. Regals tend to love zoas but seem to leave most else alone. Of course this always depends on the individual fish.

they are hit or miss,,, although they tend to like lps corals. if you have lps corals i wouldnt take a chance.

they are generally safer than most due to the lack of coral in Hawaii (or atleast the ones we use in our tanks) There aren't many corals in Hawaii that are in any hobbyist tank.

I would say go for it!

I've had one for a year, no problems at all( SPS clams, Anemones, Yumas, some LPS). My Emperator OTOH...........
