Powder blue tang acting unease diring cooper treatment

I need your advise and guidance with a new poder blue tang that is curre tly in my qt tank. I started dosing cuoramine and I'm right now at 0.2 and maybe a little more but not to 0.3 but i noticed that my pbt is acting very strange. Swimming back and forth, scratching on the pvc and fake corals i have there.

Qt tank is a 30 gal with a hob skimmer and filter, heater, pvc pieces and fake decoration for protection, small powerhead for water movement and a sponge filter powered by an air pump for bacterial filtrarion. I also have an amonia checker from seachem to check for it since the regular test will not show the correct ammounts when dosing cupramine.

My plans are to do water changes and run carvon to lower the cupramine to see if tang calms itself. So far he is eating very little. I prepared a mix of mysis, pellets, small pieces of nori all topped with selcon and garlic for enhancement.

In there there's also a yellow tang. Could he be causing stress on the pbt also?

What else can i do?

Salinitybis at 1.024 i was thinking in lowering it some more to help with oxygenation and ease of breathing.

Any other suggestions? Or should i keep going with the cupramine treatment?

Powder blue tang acting unease diring cooper treatment

You can lower salinity to 1.018 but do it slow like over a couple of days. If it's done rapidly you will stress the tangs even more. The air stone will raise oxygen in water as well. Just make sure you go slowly while treating. 2 tangs in a 30 gallon tank is stressful to them. These 2 fish normally don't get along. You might have to set up a 2nd qt tank if they are fighting or you can put a piece of egg crate in the center of the tank to divide the tank and separate the two tangs. The powder blue is scratching because he is trying to dislodge the parasites. As long as he is eating and not breathing heavily I wouldn't worry, just make sure you don't overdose copper. Since you started with copper treatment I would just continue the treatment. In my opinion cooper is harder on fish than hypo-salinity method. Good luck and keep us posted, by the way powder blue tangs are ich magnets.

Thanks for the info. I noticed they both were trying to claim the 90 degree elbow at the corner so i added another one at the opposite side. Just did a 10 gal water change and kept salinity at 1.022 this should've lowered copper a little more. Is it advisable to dose Prazipro at this time in case there are flukes or other parasites besides ick? I know i have to finish the cupramine treatment to the full extent but could i dose prazi at this point? I mean, before i start adding more copper.

So far they are not fighting to the death, i think they are just claiming their domains. They are not hurting each other yet. Just making their presence i guess...

Flukes r equally common
It's not if, it must be treated with prazipro
2 doses: 2 weeks apart

awais98 is right, finish cooper treatment first then follow up with prazipro treatment. Read my attachments above and watch the attached video from bulk reef supply.

Thank you for all your help. Just an update. After the water change yesterday I noticed that the heater I was using had stopped working. luckily in the off position. I did have another heater rated for 70 gal that helped me get the water to a much more suitable temperature for the pbt . I know they like warmer water. Salinity ended up at 1.022 and copper concentration is below 0.2 since I noticed that the yellow tang was starting to act the same way then powder blue was acting I knew it wasn't just the pbt that was stressed. I took my chances and added prazi because I noticed the yellow tang with the "rash" look by his top fin near the head and he started scratching a lot too. I've been observing them and so far they have stopped scratching! Powder blue is swimming more normally cruising around instead of flashing and shaking his head. Although he is not eating everything yet, he is going after more food than before. Question here is when do I resume the cupramine treatment? Or should I remove everything, copper and prazi with carbon and water changes and start one at the time?

Did you watch the video I posted or read any of the previous threads
Sure i did. I had followed the BRS series since day 1. I was building my thank along them. But the damage was already done when i read the other articles. Thank you for your help. I will keep you posted. Hopefully he keeps eating, that's my main concern.

Q-T tank

Q-T tank

Roberto what led you to treat the fish in the first place? You don't need to put all your new fish through these treatments. You put them in q-t to observe them before adding to display. If they develop something while in Q-T then you treat it before they get into the display. Good luck

Sorry for the late response. I lost all of my fish when i moved back in November due to marine velvet and even when they never showed any signs they all died. I decided to start again making sure i did everything i could to prevent ick or velvet into my tank. i let it fallow for over 2 months and quarantined and dosed copper to my first introductions. So far so good. Not a sign of ick or anything else. I did see the pbt scratching in a very peculiar way and i just want to do as much as i can to start my tank free of those parasites again. They haven't scratched since i added prazi 3 days ago. I havent increased the copper level since i wasn't sure if it was ok to do so. Should i start with the copper tratment at this time?
