Powder Blue Tang picking on Goniopora

I have an issue that I have never seen before. My Powder Blue tang keeps taking nibbles from my Goniopora Coral. I had always thought of tangs as totally reef safe.

Just wondering if anyone else had ever seen anything like this?

The tang is healthy, active and eating well. It is just that he seems to think he is an Angel, not a Tang. :spin3:

I noticed the same thing today.
Blue powder tang is ripping Goniopora's tentacles and then spit them out!!!
Of course he doesn't eat them just destroying..... :mad2::mad2::mad2:

So, what the hell is wrong with that fish????
He is very healthy, strong, happy and fat fish!

So, should I let him kill what remained from goniopora completely and possibly watch him looking for another coral to kill after, or should I kill him right away????

I don't know how true this is but, my LFS told me that there is probably some algae on the coral and the Tangs thinks that the coral is algae and begins to start nibbling. Once they realize it's not algae at this point they spit it out.

Is there any chance it will leave goniopora alone or it will kill it completely?
Any advice what to do?

I don't have a clue on what to do, as I have not experienced this with a Tang. I have only experienced this with a Lawnmower Blenny which he only killed one, so I wasn't hard press to take him out. Maybe the experts will chime soon.

I hope so too.
I mean I have an amazing goniopora colony and I really love my blue powder - he is big and beautiful (I think around 7 inches big)

And now I can see numerous fluorescent green tentacles floating in aquarium because powder ripped them off! :furious:
