Powder Blue Tang?

Not to bash anyone's opinions (some of my favorite fish are generally considered ugly), but what's the powder blue craze all about? I thought that maybe they were one of "those" fish, but after seeing one in person I was disappointed. Not to offend, I find their colors dull and their pattern aesthetically unappealing. What am I missing? Everyone seems to love them.

The colors on a healthy specimen carry a lot of contrast and will really "pop" in bright light. They also can develope the fattest chest that looks cool. They are tremendous swimmers and not shy when adapted. Too aggressive for me at this time. I had one for 5 years and I gave him away when I moved 2 years ago.

That makes sense. Generally, lfs specimens (the ones I'm accustomed to seeing) are not too healthy.

yeah their really neat and pretty fish..
im sure the ones you saw werent healthy but if you find a good looking one, youll understand.

most in local fish stores are still very stressed from shipping and thus are very faded in color. Like the above posts state, once the pbt settles in and is eating the colors pop.

Maybe you just had seen one that didn't have great coloring at the time. A healthy PBT is one of the most beautiful fish in the hobby, but also a pretty tough fish to keep.

There is the problem...you didn't see a healthy, established specimen, obviously.

Mine is deep purply blue, with solid black head, and brilliant yellow/baby blue fins. If you don't like "graphic" colored fish, then the PBT is not for you...I personally like the neat, non blending, graphic colors.

I can agree with the original poster to a degree. Not that I find them unattractive, but to me, in a smaller tank, the colors can become garrish and look out of place or ''planned''. I like the Powder Brown better for a smaller tank, keeping in mind that small in tang terms is 75-200 gallons. Just my opinion.

Sorry, but feel I have to ask....Are you colorblind by chance? Only kidding...

I have seen some pretty horrible ones at PetCo....I find a healthy Powder Blue stunning, but too each their own.

Part of the allure is perhaps the difficulty in keeping them.

But they are pretty, and watching them swim in a large tank with other tangs is quite entertaining.

Well i think i like them so much because i like tangs and i like the color blue..sorry about the poor pic iam no good around cammeras

I have to agree with the first poster as well, I like the colours of a powder brown better then a powder blue but then I prefer the colour of a MH bulb to be on the yellow side so maybe I'm just strange :D

That's what I was looking for. Still not one of my favorite fish, but I find it attractive. I've never seen one with colors even close to that, even in pictures. I do have to agree that it's probably because of how geometric the pattern is; it doesn't seem to mesh with such an organic environment. Glad to know I'm not alone!

I agree 100%...I love the contrast though :)
